I have a 5 year old boy on seretide preventor and singular tablet at night for cough variant asthma,?
Took my 5 year old boy to a pediatrician for cough variant asthma as he had been on a lot of steroids last winter for his asthma. He has no symptoms during the summer months but from september to april he gets monthly bouts of coughing which results in a course of steroids. The pediatrician put him on seretide preventor and a singulair tablet at night two weeks ago. Just wondering had anyone been put on similiar medication and what were the results. Any success?

I am an adult taking these medications (here they call Seretide Advair) Advair has worked very well for me I almost never need to use a rescue inhaler. The Singulair also does a good job of controlling my allergies.
It is a good idea to avoid systemic steroids as much as possible and these medications should allow you to do that

I get the same way ….all summer i am fine but once the weather cools down the asthma kicks in…i was on the singulair and it worked after about 2 days of taking it just make sure you take it as directed and not whenever cause it wont work but i was not on the seretide i am on an albuterol inhaler but as long as he takes it as prescribed it should work in keeping it under control…hopefully he will be one of the lucky kids who outgrow it :o)

Some children have seasonal asthma.Your best thing to do is ask to see an ears nose and throat specialist. My son had all the allergies ,cough ,colds couldnt play with other children because everytime he ran he would cough so bad.I feel for you .We went antibiotic over and over again.breathing machine inhaler and a pill at night .finally when I went to the specialist he said his adnoids and tonsils had been dead for a long time and should have been taken out.So check them out .

I don’t take pills, but I do take a seretide inhaler morning and night, and it’s a godsend - I really suffer without it I must admit.

Hi

Singular has a very low success rate in children for a start and it will take 4 weeks to see an affect if one is going to happen, dont expect immediate results.

My daughter was on this with no success at all, and i work in medicines as my job…

Sounds like seasonal asthma strangely it is normally summer months but can be different in all children.

The Seretide needs to be taken carefully

1. Accuhaler 100mcg One puff twice a day
2.Seretide evohaler 50 mcg = One puff twice a day

Ensure that if the Singular or Montelukast is stopped if you do not see a difference don’t be afraid to tell them .

Also once the asthma is under control make sure you get the Seretide changed to Ventolin and Qvar .

He will and should grow out of it , wont last forever.

Good luck

Hello,

I’ve had Asthma since I was 3 weeks old. I’m on Seretide, Ventolin and Becotide. The problem with my Asthma is that I live with my parents (they are both disabled) and they both smoke heavily, they also have a dog. So, please, if you have any irritants in your house, animals, smoke - please get rid of them for your child. Also, ensure that you wash all his bedding on a 60 degree wash, hoover his mattress and wash his pillows at least once a month on a 60 degree wash. No carpet in bedroom, laminate wooden floor and mop frequently, no curtains only a wipable blind. Its drastic but it does help. I have lived with bad asthma all my life - I cant wait to move out and feel better, but taking these steps in my bedroom does help. Unfortunately, cant do much to stop my parents smoking but I dont stay in the same room when they do. Good luck!
