An allergy is an immune system malfunction that causes the body to have a hypersensitive reaction to a normally day-to-day substance. There are different types of allergy; nasal allergy, asthma allergy, food allergy, insect allergy, skin allergy but one may be reacting to only one type or some among all the allergies. It is also possible for a person to react to a substance during testing but no reaction in normal exposure.

Allergy skin testing is the most used of the three methods but it varies in methodology. With the scratch test a small amount of the suspected allergen is placed on the forearm or upper arm and then introduced under the surface by scratching or pricking. The skin is then observed for swelling or redness. Skin tests are useful in detecting respiratory allergies, penicillin allergy, insect allergies, and food based allergies.

Food allergies are also often investigated via an elimination diet. Suspect foods are removed from the diet for several weeks and then re-introduced one at a time with the person monitoring their reactions. The radioallergosorbent or RAST test is performed in a laboratory and tests for specific amounts of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies that will be present in the blood during a true allergic reaction.

i get alot of gunk, mucus, in my throat and it seems to make my gland feel tender. i can feel the mucus there that needs to come out or go away. i dont know what allergy medicine to take because allergy medicines never list mucus in throat. and thats all i get, aside from itchy nose. will claritin help even though the mucus in throat is not listed? if so, claritin or claritin-d? if not claritin what kind of allergy medicine will help for this? thank u

That mucus stuff is called congestion. I take allergy medicine and find any of them work but they are kind of expensive because you have to take one everyday. It cost me in canadian dollars about $30 bucks a month and I just use generic brands or whatever I can find that is cheap. The drugs take awhile to circulate in your body and give relief…a couple of days usually so you wont feel total relief right away. And also if you miss a couple of pills you wont feel it that day or the next but you’ll pay for it a few days later. A couple of months ago, the mucus in my sinuses became really thick and very very yellow, I went to the doctor and she told me when it gets like that it is a sinus infection and she gave me anitibotics. I have taken most of the pills out there and really dont find a difference in brands

How long after removing gluten from your diet did you start to feel better?

I have Celiac, and it started feeling better within a few weeks, if I remember right.

New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Western Montana. Santa Fe/Taos area is good; Denver also. Desert and mountains both provide relief from humidity & many allergies. If you’re looking to relocate consider the California Gold Country, beginning with Nevada City. Western Oregon & Washington have humidity, but usually cool humidity. Western Washington & Oregon is dry. Look at Arizona & Nevada as well. Carson City, NV is nice.

I want to know if it’s worth a try… I know it’s worked for me in major muscular pain in the past, so I don’t doubt the benefits of acupuncture… but haven’t talked to anyone who has used it for allergy relief
